A plain-language explanation of what this site collects, what it does not collect, and how your data is handled.
Last updated: January 1, 2026. Effective immediately upon publication.
The short version: Mental Clarity Checklist does not collect, store, transmit, or sell your personal data. Your tasks and journal entries live entirely on your device. The site runs Google Analytics for anonymized traffic data and Google AdSense for advertising, both of which may use cookies governed by Google's own privacy policies. That is the complete picture.
This Privacy Policy describes the data practices of Mental Clarity Checklist, accessible at https://mentalclaritychecklist.netlify.app/ (the "Site"), operated by Marcus ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy applies to all visitors to the Site and governs the collection, use, storage, and disclosure of information in connection with your use of the Site.
By accessing or using the Site, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with the practices described here, please discontinue use of the Site.
This policy should be read in conjunction with the Terms of Service, which govern your use of the Site generally.
Mental Clarity Checklist is a local-first web application. All user-generated content — including checklist tasks, journal entries, application preferences, dark mode settings, and any other input entered through the Site's interface — is stored exclusively in your web browser's localStorage on your own device.
What localStorage means technically: localStorage is a browser-native key-value storage mechanism introduced in the HTML5 specification. Data stored in localStorage is written to a file on your local device managed by your browser and associated with the domain of the originating website. This data does not leave your device through any network request initiated by this Site. It is not transmitted to our servers, any third-party server, or any external destination by any code we control.
Who can access your localStorage data: JavaScript code running on the same origin as this Site (the domain mentalclaritychecklist.netlify.app) can read and write to this Site's localStorage. Other websites cannot access it. We have no remote access to it. It is, in practical terms, a private file on your device.
Persistence and deletion: Data stored in localStorage persists until explicitly deleted, either by you through the browser's site data clearing interface, by you through any export/clear functionality provided by the Site, or by the browser itself under storage pressure conditions. Clearing your browser cache, cookies, or site data will remove localStorage entries for this domain. We recommend exporting your tasks and journal entries regularly if they are important to you.
No server-side storage: We operate no database, no user accounts system, and no server-side storage of any kind associated with user-entered content. We do not have access to your checklist tasks, your journal entries, or any other content you create using this Site's tools. This is an architectural decision, not a policy statement — the infrastructure to collect or store your content does not exist.
For clarity and transparency, the following categories of information are not collected by this Site under any circumstances:
This Site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a web analytics service provided by Google LLC ("Google"). Google Analytics collects certain information about your visit to the Site automatically, including:
This data is collected in anonymized and aggregated form. Google Analytics does not identify you personally. IP address anonymization is enabled by default in GA4, meaning your full IP address is never stored by Google in connection with this Site's analytics data.
Google may use cookies to collect this information. These cookies are set by Google's analytics infrastructure and are subject to Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on or by adjusting your browser's cookie settings.
We use Google Analytics data solely to understand aggregate usage patterns — which pages are most visited, how people navigate the Site, and whether content improvements are having their intended effect. We do not use this data to identify individual visitors, build user profiles, or share data with any marketing or advertising platforms.
This Site displays advertisements served by Google AdSense, an advertising service provided by Google LLC. Google AdSense allows website operators to monetize their content by displaying relevant advertisements to visitors. The Site uses AdSense to generate revenue that funds its continued operation and free availability.
How AdSense cookies work: Google AdSense uses cookies and similar tracking technologies to serve ads. Google may use these cookies to show you ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. This is called interest-based or personalized advertising. The cookies Google sets for AdSense purposes may collect data including:
Opting out of personalized advertising: You can opt out of personalized advertising by Google at any time by visiting google.com/settings/ads. You can also opt out through the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page or by using your browser's private/incognito mode, which prevents persistent cookies from being set. Note that opting out of personalized advertising does not remove ads from the Site — it means the ads shown will be less tailored to your inferred interests.
Our relationship with AdSense data: We do not have access to the data Google collects through AdSense cookies. That data is controlled entirely by Google and is subject to Google's Privacy Policy and Google's Advertising Policies. We do not receive personally identifiable information from Google in connection with ad serving.
Beyond the Google Analytics and Google AdSense services described above, this Site does not use, embed, or load any third-party tracking technologies. Specifically, the Site does not include:
We do not sell, rent, lease, or transfer your personal data to any third party for any purpose. We do not share your data with data brokers, marketing agencies, or any entity other than the Google services described above, which operate under their own published privacy policies.
The following table summarizes the types of browser storage and cookies used by or in connection with this Site:
| Type | Set by | Purpose | Personal data? |
|---|---|---|---|
| localStorage | This Site | Storing your tasks, journal entries, and settings locally on your device | Only what you enter — stays on your device |
| Analytics cookies | Google Analytics | Anonymized traffic measurement | No — anonymized and aggregated |
| Advertising cookies | Google AdSense | Serving and measuring advertisements | Controlled by Google — see Google's Privacy Policy |
Because we do not collect or store personal data on our servers, most traditional data rights requests (access, correction, deletion) are not applicable in the conventional sense. However, you have complete control over the data this Site generates on your device:
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or California, you may have additional rights under applicable data protection regulations (GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA). To the extent those regulations apply to this Site's operations, please contact us at everydayroyalties@gmail.com to exercise any applicable rights.
This Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Because we do not collect personal information from any users, we do not collect it from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child under 13 has provided personal information through this Site, please contact us at everydayroyalties@gmail.com and we will take appropriate steps to address the concern.
We take reasonable steps to ensure the security of the Site and its infrastructure. The Site is served over HTTPS (TLS encryption), which protects data transmitted between your browser and the Site's hosting servers. Because we do not transmit your personal content data at all — it stays in your browser — the primary security consideration for your entries is the security of your own device.
We recommend keeping your device's operating system and browser updated, using a strong device passcode or password, and avoiding shared or public computers for activities where you wish to maintain privacy in your journal entries.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, legal requirements, or other factors. When we update this policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of the page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Continued use of the Site following any changes to this Privacy Policy constitutes acceptance of those changes. If a change materially affects how we handle data that could impact you, we will make reasonable efforts to communicate that change prominently on the Site.
